An exciting new restaurant venture has announced its arrival to the downtown core. With several other successful Santana Row restaurants on their resume, Vine Hospitality has leased a prime downtown San Jose space with the intention of opening a “vibrant” Italian-inspired restaurant. Vine Hospitality already owns and operates Left Bank, LB Steak, Camper, and Meso Modern Mediterranean.

Their new space will occupy part of the ground-floor retail area of the recently developed Miro high-rise, an impressive double-tower residential development in the core of downtown. The lease includes a 7,000 square foot site on East Santa Clara Street at the corner of North 4th Street.

The hope is to attract residents of the 630 units in the towers above the restaurant to come dine, as well as provide a high-quality restaurant to the hundreds of people who work in or visit City Hall just across the street.

According to the chief executive officer with Vine Hospitality, Obadiah Ostergard, this will be a “very vibrant Italian concept.” Regarding the restaurant, he went on to say, “It will be fun for us, with all of our roots in the Mediterranean and France. We love our protein and there will be steak also. We will have a little retail component in the restaurant that will be fun. […] We want to expand every piece of the day, from casual lunch, dinner, great late-night bites, an awesome bar scene. It will be full service. We will be open on the weekend.”

Chef Roland Passot, will lead a culinary team to craft the food and dining approach at the new Italian restaurant. Passot is a classically trained French chef with decades of restaurant experience in France, Illinois, Texas, and the Bay Area.

Encouraged by their history of success in mixed-use environments such as Santana Row, Vine Hospitality believes that the downtown district “is about to get its turn in the economic sunshine.”

With all the new mixed-use development in the area, Google’s Downtown West development of a transit-oriented neighborhood just a few blocks away, and Adobe’s downtown expansion, the hospitality group is optimistic that their restaurant will be part of “a new nexus in the area.”
