The SoFA District in San Jose is the future home to The Gateway Tower, a 24-story highrise that will stretch to 262-feet tall. Core Companies wants this location to be home to affordable housing that will comprise studios, one bedroom, and two bedroom apartments averaging approximately 900 square feet. This tower is anticipated to be approved this year with the construction starting in 2017 and an expected completion date in April 2017. Many may recognize this property as the residence of Red Front Surplus and Herrold College, two properties that are labeled Structure of Merit and City Landmarks. Core Companies hopes to build and expand the history of this property by preserving the facades of the two buildings as well as create an exhibit of the history. The Preservation Action Council of San Jose has approved their plans, however, the City of San Jose has yet to. Once given the green light, this vibrant tower will be the first visitors see when traveling in from the south.
